Pompey in the community.
Pompey in the Community, in collaboration with Flora Bucket, hosted a series of creative and sustainable workshops for young people across Portsmouth.
Participants were challenged to give new life to old football kits that were otherwise destined for landfill. Using fabric paint and their imagination, students customised their kits to create unique, personalised pieces. Additional workshops encouraged creativity and skill-building through activities such as constructing 3D paper sculptures and transforming old kits into stylish bucket hats. Young people also had the opportunity to learn sewing machine techniques, developing practical skills along the way.
Inspired by the success of these workshops, we turned our attention to an outdoor space that had fallen into disrepair. Together, we transformed it into a vibrant community garden filled with plants, benches, and creativity a welcoming hub for both people and nature.
As part of the project, students upcycled discarded footballs into hanging baskets, learning the basics of gardening and sustainability. Each participant created their own basket to take home, while also leaving some behind to enhance the new garden space for everyone to enjoy.
